A Current Perspective on Color Selection in Esthetic Restorations
Main Article Content
Abstract
This review provides a contemporary perspective on color selection in esthetic restorations, emphasizing the critical role of color harmony in achieving successful dental outcomes. The review discusses intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting tooth color, such as light scattering and staining, and explores advanced color matching techniques, including the Munsell and CIELAB color systems. Additionally, the review highlights the influence of translucency, metamerism, and fluorescence on restorative material selection and patient satisfaction. Practical guidelines for visual and instrumental color selection methods are presented, alongside a comparison of commonly used color measurement tools like spectrophotometers and colorimeters. By synthesizing current knowledge, this review aims to enhance clinicians’ understanding of color dynamics, ensuring optimal esthetic and functional results in restorative dentistry.
